Please double check your dancer’s time slot for the audition. It’s important to arrive 10-15 minutes early with your dancer ready. We will be taking measurements of all dancers auditioning whether they are casted or not. Each age group will have one hour for auditions. There may be a few dancers who are asked to stay for the next group as we might see them fitting better height and ability wise. This does not guarantee your dancer will be casted.

What to wear:
Auditions are like interviews for the dance world, so dress to impress!

Girls, please come in pink tights, any color leotard, and pink ballet shoes. Please no skirts or attached tutus. They can be distraction to other dancers and to us as we watch your dancer. Hair must be worn in a clean tight bun. Boys, please wear a fitted t-shirt, black leggings and black shoes. If your hair is longer, pin back the sides to keep it off of your face.

*See studio dress code on SMAC’s website.

THE NUTCRACKER INFORMATION

THE NUTCRACKER – ACT 2

The Nutcracker will be a shortened family-friendly version of the original ballet sure to delight children and adults equally. We’ll be offering Ballet students ages 6+ the opportunity to Audition for and perform in this holiday family favorite.

Rehearsals will be held on Saturdays from 1-4 PM with an occasional Weekday/Sunday for lead dancers. Most dances will meet every other Saturday from early September –  mid December. There will not be rehearsal Thanksgiving weekend. Parents, please plan on every Saturday in the Fall until casting is set in August.

*Interested dancers must be registered for Ballet class over the summer to refine their technique and prepare for the August Auditions. At a minimum, Ballet classes must match the level they are currently attending, Dancers ages 6-7 should take a 6-7yr Ballet class once/week, Ballet 1 once/week, Ballet 2 twice/week and Ballet 3 and 4 should be taking 3+/week. Additional Ballet technique classes are always encouraged.

Highlights from the 1st Annual The Nutcracker Production from December 2022 are below. Enjoy!

**For dancers interested in both MDC Ballet AND performing in the 2024 Nutcracker production, schedules will be set prior to the start of the year (July/August), so that this will be possible. We encourage all aspiring ballet dancers to go this route, as the education and opportunities are far greater for Team members.

Nutcracker Auditions will be held in August 2024 with weekend rehearsals starting in early September 2024. Interested dancers should be taking at least 3 ballet classes/week at their specific age/level (use Student Evaluations as a guide when registering) and Summer is a great time to increase frequency. The more your dancer trains the more proficient in that style they will become.
